Your nervous system was designed to move between states in a fluid way, able to expand, contract, and come back to a neutral conduit of communication. It moves between activation and rest, mobilization and stillness, responding to what life puts in front of you. But what happens when your ability to return to a home state is interrupted? Or if your new baseline gets shifted into a place you’re not designed to stay in for long?
In this session, we explore the energetic patterns of sympathetic and parasympathetic responses, gently moving through fawn, flight, flop, freeze, and fight. The work is not about eliminating these responses, but creating more room to move into them, complete what your body has been holding or stuck within, and find your way back.
This is a practice in building capacity for movement in and out of your window of tolerance; in and out of different nervous system states.
Description
Your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system is designed to respond to the world around you. Sometimes that means mobilizing, or preparing to fight or escape. Other times it means going unnoticed, making someone else happy, or conserving energy by momentarily freezing. It also means returning to rest, allowing the body to settle and integrate what has happened.
In this parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system healing session, you’re restoring energetic flexibility and mobility in your nervous system.
Every person has these responses; in this session we get curious about what happens when you enter them—and whether your body can find its way back.
Building on the previous sessions in the Nervous System Realm, we bring together the brain, the central nervous system, the peripheral nerves, and the body’s sensory and motor pathways to explore how these responses move through the whole body. What does the relationship between your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system responses look and feel like as you activate and regulate through them.
Beginning in a deep state of rest, you’ll gently enter different energetic patterns and observe how your body responds. You move through fawn, flight, flop, freeze, and fight, paying attention not only to how each response begins, but to what happens when the body tries to return to rest.
Some responses move through easily. Others reveal places where energy becomes stranded, signals lose their way, or the body needs a different kind of support to come back together.
The work is gradual and experimental. You’re invited to stay within your own capacity, move when your body wants to move, and pause whenever you need to. You don’t have to push through an experience to receive something from it.
The intention of this session is to give your nervous system more breathing room to respond to the world and return.
Your work in the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system healing session
This session explores the transitions between nervous system states, including the places where those transitions become interrupted or difficult to complete.
- Appeasement and reconnection. Explore your fawn response and where the nervous system calculates how to stay safe. The work gently supports the return of energy to the body, making room for the body’s signals alongside its awareness of other people.
- Mobilization and discharge. When the body prepares to flee, energy moves toward the hands, feet, and legs. You’ll create or find an outlet for that energy so the body can settle again.
- Finding the way back from collapse. In a flop response, energy struggles to move across certain gaps. Work with grounding and small points of energetic connection to allow the body to come back together without rushing the process.
- The pause and the thaw. Explore temporary immobilization in safety, where your body is allowed to pause and then thaw relatively easily.
- Reclaiming the right to respond. Space is made for parts of the self that may have had something to say, a boundary to set, or a need to defend themselves.
- Returning to rest. Throughout the session, we repeatedly move back toward a parasympathetic state, noticing what helps the body reconnect.
The intelligence of sympathetic and parasympathetic responses
Safety is the freedom to move through every nervous system state without becoming stranded in any of them. However, your protective responses aren’t mistakes, they’re familiar ways your body has learned to meet the world.
The ability to fight, flee, freeze, appease, or collapse may have helped you navigate circumstances in which you had limited choices.
This session doesn’t ask you to reject those responses or decide that one is wrong and another is right, one is good and one is bad. Instead, you’ll explore whether your body has the freedom to move between them with neutrality.
About Your Session
This is a pre-recorded energy healing session for the Nervous System Realm.
- One pre-recorded energy healing session (62 minutes)
- Guided energetic integration and contemplation through written prompts or practices
- Self-paced exploration with space between sessions to integrate the work
- Unlimited replay access for returning to the sessions whenever you feel called
This session involves gently exploring different nervous system responses, so your experience may feel more active than a typical “restful” energy work session. You might notice an impulse to press your hands or feet into the floor, clench and release your fists, shake your limbs, breathe more deeply, or make a sound. You may also prefer to remain still.
Your participation is always your choice. You can pause, move around, or stop whenever you need to. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or drifting deeply away from awareness, allow yourself time to rest and integrate rather than pushing through or repeatedly restarting the session.
Give yourself some space afterward, too. The closing portion invites gentle movement, tapping, stretching, humming, and sensory contact with your body’s edges, followed by time to settle before returning to your day.
You don’t have to force yourself to be still and calm. You’re encouraged to practice the movement between response and rest.
